Louis Hickman

The funeral equaled the grandness of this man. It was the coolest funeral I have ever been to. The military send off was amazing. The talks and songs were so good. The food afterward was delicious. It is one of the saddest days but it couldn't have been any more perfect. It suited my father in law's life and personality. I will always remember how happy and kind and loving he was. His fun sense of humor. He had a great sense of style and had such an inspiring life. He was a legend! We love him and will miss him so much.

Jim got to drive the hearse! Cool.... I guess.

Delany did not like all the noise. The band outside the church, the guns going off, the bag pipes. Pretty much all the things that made this funeral so amazing. 

The day they had in the hospital to say goodbye to Lou and to reminisce with each other was so special. 

Such a wonderful tribute to a great man. One we loved and will miss every day. 

We love you Louis Cardon Hickman and are grateful for the legacy you have left. 

What's important

Some things I want to remember.

A few months ago we were at Jim's parents for Sunday get together. Kristeen called and told me about this that night. I guess the kids were playing and Carter found a campus. He said "this is like the Liahona. In Jerusalem it tells them the right way to go." Elysa and Kristeen were very impressed with his knowledge of scripture stories. We have been doing so much better this year and partial due to a primary challenge they were given. 

I was in Seagull books with Delany looking for a study guide. Delany sees the study guides and says "these is like the Book of Mormon." Then on the next shelf over she sees the family Book of Mormon that we read together and says. "This is our Book of Mormon" The older lady next to us looked at her in astonishment and said "she is so young to know that" 

They learn everything. Sometimes I am not the best teacher but I am trying.

Last week we invited the Allens to our FHE. I taught a lesson on honesty, with an object lesson and story and activity. All the kids sat still for for the whole thing. It was amazing. They are growing up so fast. 

5 years old

Stars wars party for my big 5 year old. 

He was particular about what he did and didn't want. Birthday deva. Like he doesn't try to get things his way everyday. He is getting too big for his britches. But still wants his mom to do everything for him. He loves his friends and his sister most of the time. He wants to do the right thing and follow the rules. Although sometimes he wants to be the one to make the rules. 

Delany loves to sing. She has always liked frozen but has developed a deeper love recently. Now she goes around singing it as loud as she can. It's pretty cute! Cracks me up. She wants to be snacking constantly. Likes to squirt down the Pilates reformers for me to clean them. Can't help but make a mess everywhere she goes. Dumps things, takes things out every place she goes. 

Yesterday I was getting after carter and she pipes up and says "carter James" haha. 

Favorite saying - sometimes she says "whatever you say mommy" which is a total crock cause she also likes to do what she wants to do. But it cracks me up when she says it. She loves horses. She also likes pretending she is a kitty or horsey. Sometimes meowing instead of talking. 

She has a sensitive heart and a determined personality.
